My collection has a cover at last!

I opened my email this afternoon to find the cover of my short story collection from my publisher, The University of Georgia Press.

I’ve been worrying and dreaming about a cover for my collection Once Removed ever since last July, when Lee K. Abbott called to tell me that the collection had won the 2018 Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction.

Actually, the first thing I got was a text message notification on my iPhone while I was driving. When I saw the snippet “Flannery O’Connor Award” flash onscreen, I started shaking so hard, I pulled over.

“Don’t know if you have listened to your voicemail yet,” said Lee’s text. “If not, this: You have won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction this year.”

Um, no. I hadn’t gotten a voicemail. “Are you sure you’ve contact the right person?” I texted back.

He assured me he had.

“Don’t know if you have listened to your voicemail yet. If not, this: You have won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction this year.”

Now, almost a year later, the cover is here, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

The publication date of Once Removed is September 15, 2019. I’ll post updates about the launch, readings, related events, etc. as information becomes available.
