Get creative in June with Prompted: A Generative Writing Workshop

JUNE IS FULL. PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE JULY DATES, WHICH I WILL POST SHORTLY.

On May 12th, the Los Angeles County Public Health Director acknowledged that Los Angeles County likely will shelter in place through July of this year.

So, to help writers stay creative, especially those on summer lockdown, I’m offering another round of Prompted, a generative online writing workshop for writers of all genres and levels.

The Goal of Prompted: Promoting Positivity and Creativity During Tough Times

I’ve gotten more productive as a writer throughout the course of this lockdown, largely because I’ve been scheduling time with other writers on Zoom to talk shop, set goals, write silently alone together.

Teaching helps me feel productive and motivated as well, especially Prompted. I never cease to be awed by what Prompted students produce when writing for 15 to 20 minutes in response to a prompt as simple as “My mother never…”

June Sessions of Prompted

What We’ll Do

Designed for writers of all levels and genres, the workshop helps participants generate new writing in a relaxed, collaborative online environment. We’ll talk about basic writing craft principles, focusing on how to create richly imagined characters and challenge them with conflicts that threaten their hidden, most deeply held desires.

Participants will put these concepts to use by writing in response to prompts aimed at provoking characters into action. Participants will also be able to share their work aloud for feedback from the class on the most evocative, exciting aspects of their writing. The goal is to generate pieces to use as inspiration for new or existing work.

When We’ll Meet

Each Prompted Workshop will consist of four individual sessions. Sessions will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm – 8 pm PST via Zoom. Each session is limited to 8 students. You may enroll in all four or just a few sessions per workshop, whichever you prefer.

Meeting Dates for the June

The upcoming June Prompted Workshop will meet on the following dates:

• June 9th
• June 16th
• June 23rd
• June 30th

How to Enroll

As I noted above, you may enroll in one or more sessions, depending on availability. Each individual session is $30. Enroll in all 4 sessions for $100.

Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis.
