Many moons ago, when Once Removed was still a loose collection of random stories, Sally Shore, founder and host of The New Short Fiction Series, saw potential in it and directed a spoken word show of my work.
My New Short Fiction Series show was one of my favorite experiences. It took place at the Federal Bar in North Hollywood in an upstairs private room and was filled with friends, family, students, and colleagues. Sally directed an incredible show, with talented actors—including herself—reading excerpts from my stories.
Now, when we’re not able to meet in person, Sally has moved the New Short Fiction Series onto Crowdcast. Her inaugural virtual show marking the 25th year of NSFS, showcased the stories of my friend Rachel Vogel. It was a wonderful show, full of stellar performances and exceptional writing.
I felt incredibly lucky when Sally contacted me and asked to read an excerpt from “La Cuesta Encantada,” the final story in Once Removed, on IGTV Live, and to do a Q&A with me afterward.
If you missed the live performance, you can visit Sally’s IGTV channel on Instagram and look for the video titled “La Cuesta Encantada by @colettesartor” or you can click on the video above. If you visit her IGTV channel, please be sure to check out her other readings. She’s an incredible spoken word artist who brings depth and complexity to everything she performs.
Thank you, Sally, for sharing the gift of your talents to bring my work alive.
