Some Accolades for Once Removed

Some recognition for ONCE REMOVED.

I was delighted to discover that my linked short story collection Once Removed recently received several awards.

NATIONAL INDIE EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Once Removed won the Indie Excellence Juror’s Choice Award and the Short Stories Award from the 15th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards. Author J. Ryan Stradal chose this year’s Indie Excellence Juror’s Choice Award, which recognizes a single title from all of the Winners & Finalists awarded each year. This award honors one book that displays excellence in all aspects by providing its author with unrestricted funds to help with future marketing and distribution efforts.

A leader and veteran of publishing award contests, The National Indie Excellence Awards are open to recent English language books in print from self and independent publishers.

The National Indie Excellence Awards celebrate independent publishing as a strong and vital sector of our industry. Recognizing excellence in all aspects of the final presentation, NIEA champions self-publishers and the independent presses who produce the highest quality books across a spectrum of metrics. Established in 2005, NIEA’s entrants are meticulously judged by experts from various facets of the book industry profession including publishers, editors, authors and designers.

Winners and Finalists are determined on the basis of superior written matter coupled with excellent presentation in every facet of the final published product from cover to cover. Our range of Sponsorship Awards and the cash prizes awarded by the Juror’s Choice are selected from the overall group of Winners and Finalists.

OTHER RECENT ACCOLADES

Once Removed was also 1st Runner-Up for the 2021 Eric Hoffer Short Story/Anthology Award. In addition, the book was a Finalist for the 2021 Eric Hoffer Grand Prize Award, and the 2021 Eric Hoffer First Horizon Award, which is awarded for superior work by debut authors (i.e the first published book of any type by the author). The Eric Hoffer Book Awards were founded at the start of the 21st century (with permission from the Eric Hoffer Estate) to honor freethinking writers and independent books of exceptional merit.

Finally, Once Removed was named a Distinguished Favorite for Short Stories in the 2021 Independent Press Awards.
