I’m excited to be teaching in the 2015 UCLA Extension Writers’ Program Writers Studio this winter.
The 2015 Writers’ Studio takes place February 5 – 8. It brings together students from around the world to study in a small workshop setting with a Writers’ Program instructor. Students choose 1 workshop from among the 10 offered workshops, each of which is limited to 15 students. It’s an intensive program that builds a strong sense of community and allows participants to take major strides in their writing.
I’ll be teaching Accessing Your Fiction in a Flash: A Short Fiction Writing Workshop. The goal of my workshop is to jumpstart participants’ writing by exploring the world of flash fiction:
Sometimes the best way to jumpstart your writing is to strive for brevity. If you find the stories within you that can be told in under 1,000 words–what is commonly referred to as “flash fiction”–you can use these complete little gems to help you understand how to tell a compelling story that readers can’t put down.
I’m happy to have Jim Gavin, author of the highly acclaimed short story collection, Middle Men, as my guest speaker.
